Some stages of growth in a marriage that is important for every relationship are:

Getting To Know Each Other

There is a vast contrast between dating someone and living with the same person 24/7. When you are drawn to each other, you are full of love, energy and innocence. Both of them are tender and at certain times, go beyond the limit to make their partners feel special. All these feelings do continue to exist even after marriage, but many more are newly experienced with time. When two people settle as a married couple, they are always more considerate towards each other in the beginning. They tend to be more loving and ignore each other’s flaws and faults. At this stage, they start knowing different moods and habits of their partner. The first stage of marriage is a stage of discovery, excitement and enjoyment.

Understanding Differences

This is the most crucial stage so far as growth in marriage is concerned. The idea of perfection and comfort slowly starts to fade. No two persons are alike, and the difference in thoughts and opinion is unavoidable. As time passes by the daily routine doesn’t seem to be as exciting as before. And it is human nature to get bored of same old habits and routine. It results in a loss of certain feelings and interest. After spending a fair amount of time together, a married couple experiences the other side of marriage. For instance, they stop being the over caring person and question their partners on issues that were overlooked before. The argument, doubts, ego, criticism, etc. become a part of their lives.

Growth in marriage is the understanding of such differences, accepting disappointments and being there for each other at all costs. Many a time we come across couples who say they feel trapped in their marriage. It is mostly because of the lack of flexibility in any one or both the partners. One must be flexible and forgiving enough to sustain a marriage.

Every Effort Counts

Like every other relationship, effort is significant in marriage too. During the first stage, both the partners are effortlessly romantically drawn to each other. But as life goes on, even love and care will require need effort. You will realise that marriage is synonymous to life. Every day will not bring in the same amount of enthusiasm. So, efforts to make your partner feel wanted and special are very important. You need not plan big surprises always, but show your care in little things. For instance, appreciating the food cooked by them, helping with the household chores, or simply expressing your love for them. Such small gestures add a great deal of glow to relationships. In this way, your partner will also value your efforts and reciprocate warmly. Both of you will get aware of the needs to nurture your marriage.

Marriage is a responsibility that is shared equally by both the partners. Try following the tips as mentioned above and notice your relationship blossom into love, happiness and maturity.
